Nuclear energy offers a response to the fast growing needs for energy supply in the coming 50 years and has to meet important civil engineering challenges: design of new generation power plants; operating and dismantling the existing buildings with a strong emphasis on safety and waste management according to the demanding criteria of sustainable development. Apart from the nuclear energy, other industries and all complex civil engineering works need safe structures built with innovative materials. These major issues increase the need for high level specialists in civil engineering in France and abroad.

French companies are leaders on the world market in the fields of construction and nuclear energy; the ESTP Paris trains in France the biggest student flow for civil engineering. The union of their combined professional and academic expertise led to the setting up of this high level master’s programme in Nuclear Civil Engineering.

Learning Outcomes

M1+M2     The full programme – 1st year (M1) + 2nd year (M2) - is a 4 semester, 120 ECTS credits master’s programme according to following calendar:

M2            According to prior qualification (see admission criteria), applicants may be admitted directly to the last year of study (M2). In that case, the internship takes place before the final thesis:

According to their level in French language, all applicants are invited to follow an optional intensive session in French as a Foreign language before the beginning of the actual master’s programme. 


Syllabus

Teaching activities are carried out under different forms: theoretical lectures; exercices; practical work; site visits. There is a continuous assessment during the semester with written & oral exams; homework; projects; reports, … The programme concludes with the defense of the final thesis.

Admission requirements

1st year (M1) for the full two year programme: 

§  3 or 3.5 year Bachelor degree in civil engineering (equivalent to minimum 180 ECTS)

§  Bachelor or Master’s degree in other fields of engineering, or in Mathematics or Physics or Mechanics

§  Proficiency in English: minimum level B1 in the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages

§  Proficiency in French: no entry requirement. According to the level, optional intensive session in July and/or August and compulsory weekly courses during the master’s programme

2nd year (M2), direct admission for applicants with validation of achieved Learning Outcomes: 

§  4 or 5 year Bachelor or master’s degree in civil engineering (equivalent to minimum 240 ECTS)

§  1st year of a master degree in civil engineering (equivalent to minimum 240 ECTS)

§  Professional with equivalent working experience

§  Proficiency in English: minimum level B1 in the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages

§  Proficiency in French: no entry requirement. According to the level, optional intensive session in July and/or August and compulsory weekly courses during the master’s programme

Location

All teaching & research activities take place at the ESTP Paris campus located at Cachan. The master’s programme includes site visits of companies, industrial sites and nuclear power plants.
