Leading the ecological transition in building construction and civil engineering

In response to climate challenges and the urgent need to decarbonise the building sector, the GECD programme trains engineers capable of designing, constructing, and operating high energy-performance buildings.

The program's ambitions

Designed to meet carbon neutrality objectives and future regulatory requirements, the programme trains committed engineers with strong technical, environmental, and economic expertise. Graduates become key players in the energy transition within the building sector.

The program's structure

The GECD programme is delivered over three years in a work-study format. It combines fundamental sciences (thermodynamics, mechanics, electricity) with specialised courses in energy design, building systems, renovation, BIM, and environmental regulations. Teaching is based on real-world projects, case studies, technical site visits, and strong immersion in industry. Each year includes periods at ESTP, company-based assignments, and a final-year project focused on energy transition challenges.

The program's advantages

The GECD engineering degree at ESTP trains experts through apprenticeship in energy performance, sustainable construction, and low-carbon buildings.

An integrative engineering and project management profile, capable of deploying innovative techniques and technologies to optimise building energy performance.

Work-study training that promotes rapid professional integration, enabling students to be fully operational upon graduation thanks to strong immersion in the professional environment.

Learning objectives

Training engineers capable of designing and managing sustainable, high-performance energy systems in the building sector.

Design and size innovative energy systems adapted to both new construction and renovation projects.

Master current thermal regulations and integrate environmental standards into project design.

Use simulation tools, energy diagnostics, and consumption optimisation methods to improve overall performance.

Manage energy projects by integrating project management, stakeholder coordination, and economic constraints.

Integrate BIM methodologies to collaborate effectively, model systems, and manage technical data in energy projects.

Intended audience

Recent graduate, Preparatory class student

Admission criteria

Prerequisites

BUT (Year 2 or 3): Electrical Engineering and Industrial Computing, Civil Engineering – Sustainable Construction, Physical Measurements, Energy Transition and Efficiency Professions, Mechanical and Production Engineering.

BTS: Energy, Fluids and Environment / Home Automation.

Other Bac +2 + ATS preparatory programme.

Application requirements

CFA Ingénieurs 2000 : join ESTP by pre-registering on our partner CFA’s website (age limit: 30 years old) from 17/12/2025 to 13/05/2026.

In 2025, Ingénieurs 2000, partner CFA for the Sustainable Construction Energy Engineering (GECD) programme, was awarded the Label Alternance Jeune certification.

Work experience

The GECD pathway at the Cachan campus follows a progressive work-study rhythm over three years.
Year 1 alternates one month at the School and one month in the company.
In Year 2, periods extend to two months / two months, then three months / three months.
Year 3 may include a full semester in the company.

Certification/assessment methods

Degree validation is based on continuous assessment, semester evaluations, supervised projects, work-study progress reviews, oral examinations, and a professional dissertation written and defended in Year 3. Students must validate 180 ECTS credits over the three-year programme. Commitment within the host company, competencies acquired in real-world situations, and progression in projects are key evaluation criteria throughout the programme.

International opportunities

A minimum international professional experience of nine weeks is compulsory during the programme. This may take the form of an internship or an assignment abroad. Depending on opportunities, academic exchanges may also be possible.

Funding and everyday life

Because funding should never be a barrier to ambition, ESTP offers personalized support and a wide range of solutions accessible to all profiles. Scholarships for academic excellence, assistance from the ESTP Foundation, public programs (CROUS, Erasmus+), partnerships with companies or banks, paid internships, work-study programs, assignments through the Junior Enterprise… everything is done to enable everyone to build their career path with confidence. Our goal: to give you the means to move forward with peace of mind, from the first day of your training to your entry into the workforce.
