Created in 2023 by ESTP and AgroParisTech, with the support of the ESTP Foundation, the AgroParisTech Foundation, the UPGE (French Union of Ecological Engineering), VINCI Construction and Eiffage, the Ecological Civil Engineering Chair responds to an urgent need:
fully integrating ecological issues and biodiversity into civil engineering and urban development projects.
Its mission is to structure an innovative field at the crossroads of civil engineering and ecological engineering, transforming practices in response to climate change and biodiversity loss.
Designed as a driver of transformation, the Ecological Civil Engineering Chair at ESTP pursues four main objectives:
To meet the needs of companies and project owners, the Chair develops dedicated training initiatives: learning pathways, student projects, and specialized content on ecological civil engineering. The goal is to equip future engineers with the skills to design and manage environmentally responsible projects.
The Ecological Civil Engineering Chair coordinates and funds collaborative research programs and PhD theses on critical topics: biodiversity, water cycles, soil functionality, eco-design, resource efficiency, carbon neutrality, urban heat islands, and more. A research dynamic firmly rooted in real-world challenges.
To increase the visibility of this emerging discipline, the Chair carries out communication initiatives, organizes events, and develops demonstrators and teaching tools. These actions help to highlight careers, innovations, and solutions in ecological civil engineering.
The Chair is supported by strong and expert governance:

By bringing together engineering, ecology, and applied research, the Ecological Civil Engineering Chair has established itself as a key driver of transformation in the construction sector. It places nature at the heart of projects, trains the talents of tomorrow, and creates fertile ground for collective innovation.
